Enterprise-Grade Cleanups: How IDR Took Over Cabling for Oppenheimer Funds
MTF Biologics partnered with IDR to turn a large training space into a fully integrated Microsoft Teams meeting room. The space needed to support in-room presentation, remote participation, ceiling microphones, and zone-based audio — all while keeping audio clean and fully under user control.

Enterprise-Grade Cleanups: How IDR Took Over Cabling for Oppenheimer Funds
Phase 1: IDF Closet Cutovers
IDR began by cutting over existing IDF closets in a controlled, overnight rollout schedule. Each Friday night, a team of 2–3 IDR techs would work to upgrade the infrastructure.
• Remove legacy Cisco Nexus switches, UPS systems, and PDUs
• Install all-new Cisco Nexus switches, APC UPS systems, and WTI PDUs
• Deploy new color-coded 28AWG patch cables organized by VLAN
• Create and follow a full patch matrix for all network connections
• Work into the early morning to test and validate with the client's Network Engineering team
Phase 2: Data Center Infrastructure Overhaul
After seeing the success of our cutovers, Oppenheimer contracted IDR to clean up and rebuild their NYC data center — a facility consisting of:
• 5 rows and ~60 racks
• Multiple switching layers and uplinks
• Poorly organized cable trays, non-labeled lines, and improper power routing
• Over the course of 18 months, IDR worked weekly on-site to:
• Trace, remove, and re-cable copper and fiber links
• Install 28AWG Cat6a, OM3 multimode, and single-mode fiber
• Label every cable on both ends with Panduit wraparound labels
• Replace core infrastructure with:
• Cisco Nexus 9K & 7K switches
• Palo Alto firewalls
• HPE switches & servers
• Cisco ASA firewalls
• APC UPS systems & WTI PDUs
• Design and enforce power redundancy strategies per rack
IDR focused on clean cable paths, redundant power at the rack level, and documented handoffs — providing clarity and long-term maintainability in a once-chaotic environment.
Unexpected Outcome: Project Interrupted
Despite IDR's progress and consistent delivery, Oppenheimer Funds shut down operations before the project could be completed. At the time of closure, IDR had completed more than half of the planned infrastructure overhaul.
Results (Before Closure)
• 10+ IDF closets cut over with fully documented patch matrices
• 30+ data center racks completely rebuilt
• 18 months of uninterrupted project consistency
• Full trust of Oppenheimer's internal engineering and infrastructure team
• Validation of IDR's ability to handle complex, mission-critical cutovers in enterprise environments
"Even though the client closed their doors, this project proved our ability to manage long-term, high-stakes data center work with zero disruption and total accountability."
